Council appoints Chief Executive

Kawerau District Council is delighted to announce the appointment of Morgan Godfery as Chief Executive following a robust recruitment process as per the Local Government Act.

Mayor Faylene Tunui says that Mr Godfery brings a depth of public policy, communications and local understanding to the role that will serve the people of Kawerau well as we embrace and navigate the future opportunities.

Morgan is currently a Senior Lecturer at Victoria University with the Faculty of Law. Morgan has a depth of experience spanning public policy, journalism and communications, having worked across central government, a trade union and education sectors.

There were a number of standout candidates amongst the 27 applications received and we are delighted to appoint a local who has the credentials and local knowledge to lead our organisation into the future.

Morgan will take up the role on Monday, 22 January 2024.
