Starting in December 2019, Kawerau District Council and St John Kawerau had a joint initiative to implement a Health Shuttle Service to be based in Kawerau. As of January 2022 this initiative is now up and running. 

How do people book the service?

If you have an appointment and you cannot get there, or home afterwards, give the friendly team at St. John a call on 0800 824 325 and option #2 for Bookings and then #1 for Kawerau

Please call at least 24 hours ahead of your appointment.

What is it?

The St. John Kawerau Hato Hone | Health Shuttle is a pick-up and return service from home to medical or health related appointments.

Stress-free and straight forward, this is a koha (donation) service. St John Health Shuttles are staffed by fully trained volunteers who will pick you up from home and return you after your appointment.

Who is the service for?

These service comprises two health shuttles (a van and car) to be used for transporting people of all ages to and from their medical appointments throughout the wider Bay of Plenty region, including Kawerau, Whakatāne, Tauranga and Rotorua.
