Kawerau District Council is changing the solid waste collections from Monday, 30 August 2021 in response to the continued Level 4 lockdown.
As Kawerau remains in Level 4, until at least 11.59pm on Tuesday, 31 August 2021, Kawerau District Council has agreed to change the rubbish collections.
Residents are advisedt that they can use their large 240 litre greenwaste bin for all rubbish for the weekly collections from Monday, 30 August onwards until we drop to Level 2.
Council wishes to advise that if any residents have already filled their greenwaste bin, they are welcome to put out both this bin and their smaller general waste rubbish bin (either a 60 litre or 120 litre bin) this coming week.
This will enable residents to clear out any rubbish and greenwaste that they may have collected, especially, as with the good weather many people have been doing some home and garden maintenance.
Residents are asked to keep their recycling aside at home until we drop levels and the Transfer Station reopens, or put that recycling into the 240 litre bin with their other waste streams.
For any queries please contact Council on 07 306 9009.
Council as always, has a Duty Supervisor available 24/7 to assist with urgent water, waste or dangerous tree or dog attacks - please contact Council on 07 306 9009 for assistance at any time.
This is the best solution to protect our staff and to ensure that the community can dispose of their solid waste streams.
Council advises that this is not a long-term solution, as we can keen to ensure that we minimise waste and encourage recycling and the separation of greenwaste which Council can reuse at a later date as compost around the region. But right now, this is the best and safest solution for our staff and the community.
