Media Release - Thank you for your Three Waters Reform feedback

Thanks for your Three Waters Reform feedback
KAWERAU District Council wishes to thank the community for the feedback that has been pouring in over the past few days.
More than 210 residents have provided feedback over a relatively short timeframe of 10 days.
“We appreciate that people wanted to have their voice heard and added to the report that Council has to provide to the Government’s Department of Internal Affairs.”

Council greatly appreciates the time residents and ratepayers have taken to become informed, provide feedback, ask questions and seek clarification about the Government's Three Waters Reform proposal.

The Council’s report and all the feedback from residents and ratepayers will be tabled at the Council Meeting on Tuesday, 28 September.

“With such an over-whelming response from the residents and ratepayers, in a relatively short timeframe – we appreciate how important this issue is to our district.”

The feedback from residents and ratepayers will be compiled and added to Council’s report to the Government, along with the independent review completed by Castalia and also the Tūhura report commissioned by the Department of Internal Affairs.

Council wants to remind the district, that this has not been a formal consultation process.

As Kawerau District Council has indicated in previous months, it still intends to conduct a formal process to discuss the Three Waters Reform and engage with mana whenua, Iwi, stakeholders, residents and ratepayers.

Kawerau intends to submit the report and feedback on 30 September and understands that the Government via the Minister will then come back with a response.

“Once we have this response, we expect this will give us a clearer understanding of the timeline and when we can carry out our formal consultation process.”
