Work is progressing well on the roundabout being constructed on State Highway 34 by the Pūtauaki Trust.

Pūtauaki Trust General Manager John O’Brien recently presented to elected members and management at a Kawerau District Council workshop.

Now in stage two, the Pūtauaki Trust industrial development includes a roundabout and link roadway connecting to an existing internal access road within the Pūtauaki Trust Industrial area.

NOTICE - Road closure from Monday, 19 October 2020 

The downstream culvert at Cobham Drive will be worked on first which means that River Road will be closed from 262 and 264 River Road from Monday, 19 October.

Bus students who live around the Cobham Drive and Ward Street area in Kawerau will either need to make their way to the River Road Dairy or Kawerau Life Konnect (the former Kawerau Intermediate School) during the first of the two closures for pickup. The school bus pickup times remain unchanged.

Another milestone towards the construction of the Kawerau Container Terminal was achieved recently with the completion of the ‘Heads of Agreement’ that relates to the land area where the terminal will be located.

THE impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic have been particularly hard on the events sector.

This weekend the revised event ‘Stacked Kawerau’ has been postponed until November 27 and 28.

The new timeframe was needed to allow exhibitors to set up their works and related to the government announcement of the region moving from COVID-19 Level 2 to Level 1.

This event is being held in the Kawerau Town Hall and is free to the public to attend.

A leaking steam pipe that supplies the Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool Complex has caught the attention of people today.
There is no danger to the public as the area was fenced off and Council staff turned the geothermal bore off that feeds into the heat exchanger of the main pool. This ensures the geothermal steam remains in the ground.

Kawerau District Council welcomes the introduction of the new regulations for drinking water in New Zealand.

 

As part of the Government’s Three Waters review, the Mayor, Chief Executive and various elected members attended workshops and presentations from officials about the introduction of new regulations and a proposed approach to Three Waters investment and service delivery reform.

 

At the upcoming Council meeting on August 25, the Kawerau District Council will make decisions about whether to sign the initial Water Reform Memorandum of Understanding.
