Council disappointed with Three Waters Reform announcement

Kawerau District Council is disappointed for its community that the government is taking away the choice to join or opt out of the Three Waters Reform.

Mayor Malcolm Campbell said it is disappointing that the concerns of our community were not responded to ahead of Wednesday’s announcement. 

“Our community came out in droves to raise concerns and issues in their feedback about the Three Waters Reform.

Council acknowledges Trust Horizon support

20 October 2021 

Kawerau District Council wishes to acknowledge the contribution by Trust Horizon to the community.

Trust Horizon has pledged more than $200,000 to support projects that will benefit the Kawerau community, including funds towards the drilling of a new geothermal borehole to heat the Maurie Kjar Memorial Swimming Pool Complex and the electrical rewiring required for the splash pad at the complex. 

Mayor Malcolm Campbell acknowledged this would make a huge difference to the Kawerau community.

KAWERAU District Council wishes to thank the community for the feedback that has been pouring in over the past few days. 
More than 210 residents have provided feedback over a relatively short timeframe of 10 days.

The government’s Three Waters Reform proposes that the water assets currently managed by Kawerau District Council and the other 66 councils throughout New Zealand will be owned and operated by four large entities. 
Launched in July 2020 the government proposes changing the Three Waters service delivery arrangements by 1 July 2024.

The Three Waters Reform proposes that the water assets currently managed by Kawerau District Council and the 66 other councils throughout New Zealand will be owned and operated by four large entities.
